Screwtape #18

In this letter Screwtape talks about the subject of the sexual temptations. He tells the head of the Training College that he did not teach the students very well. Hethinks that they should be taught more on the subject so that they're not fiends. Although his tone is snobby toward the head of the college, Screwtape acts as though he likes him. When he talks about the subject of sexual temptation, he talks about there are only 2 extremes. You're either completely abstinent or extremely sexually active. According to the Bible, when a man and a womand have intercourse they are made into "one flesh" which is a bond that lasts forever. I found it interesting how much Screwtape touched on this one subject throughout the letter. He seems to be taking a lot of sins to elaborate his feelings toward on in each of the letters.

I especially liked this letter for its detail. Talking about the human sexuality in such given detail when having intercourse can intrigue and tempt any human. So to talk about a subject of love and romance, it is by nature that someone will be interested in the content of one's explanation.

I liked how detailed you were explaining this chapter because it just sounded completly different. IT's interesting how he talks about life and the nature of going through life in detail, which including love and romance.

I also found it interesting that there were only two extremes according to Screwtape. I have always, personally, thought that there were the middle areas between these two extremes. I would never be able to think that there was only completely abstinent or extremely sexually active people. Because then there would be so much more controversy between people as to which extreme they are at.

I found it really interesting that he thought there were only two extremes. This reminds me of a lot of the passages we have been reading in luke where Jesus says there are either one extreme or another. It is interesting that he uses this also.
